It's been two months now since our return to Chile. The people are the same, the smells are the same, the streets are still dirty and the street dogs still bark incessantly guarding their territory.
In Hebrews we read that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. I am reminded of this as I reflect on Santiago and it's seeming changelessness. However, unlike my Lord, Santiago is fragile. The people live a life that is stressful, that impedes their ability at times to enjoy the small things and the beauty life can bring.
While I rejoice that God is unchanging, I also rejoice that he is transforming me. It is a wonderful thing grace. Grace that saves, molds, transforms the unseemly into something much more valuable.
I am thankful, as I return to my second home, that this time I can see through different eyes. The people that I share life with are the same as me. I am humbled by the fact that my needs are deep just like those around me. However, I am so pleased that Jesus is the same today, as he was in the centuries before and still will be forever.
